McKenna on KIRO: Is Facebook in big trouble over user data?

KIRO 97.3 host Dave Ross asked Rob about the Federal Trade Commission’s new investigation into Facebook. Violations of consumer protection laws and an agreement between the company and the FTC on protecting users’ data could result in massive fines for Facebook.

Dave Ross: “So do you think that Facebook is in trouble with this FTC investigation?”

Rob McKenna: “Yeah, this is a serious matter for Facebook. #1, because the FTC has a lot of power to enforce the national consumer protection law, to protect consumers from deceptive and unfair practices.

“And #2, because Facebook is already under a consent decree with the FTC dating back to 2011, in which they promise to do a better job of protecting consumer privacy and of keeping the promises they make to Facebook users about how their data will be protected.”
