KIRO 97.3 host Dave Ross asked Rob about the latest lawsuit to stop charter schools. The state teachers union is joined by other non-education unions in the suit to block state funding for the schools.
Dave Ross: “Part of the problem, of course, is that these charter schools are not unionized. I know that’s one of the things that worries the Washington Education Association…”
Rob McKenna: “I think what really upsets the Washington Education Association and their union allies is that these schools don’t automatically fall under the control of the local school boards, where those teacher unions have very great control. They have a lot of power.
“More than that, though, I don’t think they want the competition.”
