A partner in the Seattle office of the international law firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, Rob McKenna is co-head of the firm’s Public Policy Group, working with clients such as Microsoft and T-Mobile.
The former Attorney General of Washington, Rob is accomplished in all areas of public policy, appellate law and investigations. His experience, stature and expertise add essential capabilities for clients seeking coordinated policy advocacy, regulatory compliance and litigation strategies across the country.
Rob served two terms as Washington’s Attorney General, from 2005 to 2013. He successfully argued three cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and negotiated three of the largest consumer financial protection settlements in national history, all involving mortgage lending and servicing. He is a recognized leader in the development of consumer protections on the internet, in data protection and privacy regulation. Rob was the first state Attorney General to build a computer forensics lab to collect evidence of Internet fraud, and passed one of the nation’s first anti-spyware laws. Mr. McKenna also served as President of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) where he co-launched the NAAG Intellectual Property Task Force to advance the national fight against counterfeiting and piracy.
As Attorney General, Rob McKenna directed more than 500 attorneys and nearly more than 700 professional staff. He passed 45 bills in the Washington State legislature – more than any Washington Attorney General in recent history – on policy issues such as identity theft prevention, human trafficking, domestic violence, prescription drug abuse and government accountability. In 2011, his fellow attorneys general honored him with the Kelley-Wyman Award for “Outstanding Attorney General” in America.
Prior to serving as Washington Attorney General, Rob served on the Metropolitan King County Council and was an attorney at Perkins Coie. He has held numerous community leadership positions with public school and college foundations, domestic violence prevention organizations, and leadership development groups. A Distinguished Eagle Scout himself, Rob serves on the board of the Chief Seattle Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and is a member of Bellevue Rotary.
